I love free stuff, who doesn't right? My husband picked up this frame for me before it hit the dumpster at his sister's house. I just love that man. I took the frame apart and added a few touches to customize it for our bedroom. I found this wrapping paper at dollar tree a few months back and loved the colors. I'm using alot of yellow in our bedroom now and I loved the natural color because it reminds me of burlap. After he brought the frame home, I had a great plan to update it for our bedroom with one of my favorite pictures of us taken years ago on a trip to Rhode Island. This is a very simple update. I wrapped the bottom part of the frame with the wrapping paper and just cut a piece of burlap a little larger than the actual picture. I cut the white paper that comes inside the frame a little larger than the burlap. I guess you would say I layered it.

soup can to candleholder
Cheap and simple is what I love. I took the label off of a soup can that I just used, painted it black with just plain old craft paint and added a candle that I already had.
Here is a few different looks. The first one has a little piece of burlap glued around it with a very simple primitive star glued to the burlap. Acceptable but not great.
Second one is the keeper. I found a piece of burlap ribbon that I bought at Dollar general and tied it around the candle. I like this one much better and it found a home in my almost finished office.

candles decorated with scraps
project #2 using what I already have!
I'm trying really hard to use items from my sewing/craft room and not make any new purchases for my projects. I found a few candles and decided to try and decorate them with leftovers from previous craft projects.
I'm trying really hard to use items from my sewing/craft room and not make any new purchases for my projects. I found a few candles and decided to try and decorate them with leftovers from previous craft projects.
Here's what I came up with:
HOPE candle has a piece of contact paper from the dollar store, layered with a piece of burlap and a primitive star that has "hope" stamped on it.
2nd candle-a piece of upholstery webbing and raffia layered on the top.
DREAM candle, scrap of burlap, sisal rope and another primitive heart with dream stamped on it.
Here are few ways that I chose to display them.
****Here's an update to where the candle in center finally found a home.
Stay tuned to see what I can come up with next from a bunch of leftovers.

burlap foot stool
If you follow my blog you know that we just recently remodeled our screened in porch. After purchasing new furniture minus the ottoman because they wanted $150 just for that piece, I decided to try my hand at making my own ottoman. I had the perfect oak table that was the exact height that I needed. This table has a great amount of sentimental value to me because my Dad made it many years ago and I've been saving it for just the right project.
I purchased a square piece of foam from Walmart. With some help from my mother we covered the top of the table with burlap.

I layed the burlap on the floor, centered the foam and added the table upside down. While my mother held it in place, I stapled it all to the bottom of the table. This was no easy task because the table was solid oak.
I love how it turned out for two reasons.
Reason 1: My Dad made the table and
Reason 2: My mother helped me transform it to this.
My husband likes it too!

Burlap name plate
I wanted something fall looking for my front door. I love anything burlap so I went to Pat Catan's and purchased an embroidery hoop. I thought the oval shaped one was interesting. I paid $5.79 for this size and added burlap that I had in my fabric stash. I stretched the burlap in the hoop. I also purchased wooden letters at Pat Catans for 35 cents each.
I traced the letter with a black sharpie and then filled them in with black paint.
Next I cut the burlap and hot glued it to the inside of the embroidery hoop. Sorry I didn't take a picture of this step.
Here is the finished product hanging on my red front door. I hung it with another piece of burlap. I love how it turned out. This was a very easy and cheap way to personalize your front door.
I'm thinking Christmas presents for the Orrico side of the family. What do you think?

sheet music candle
Walmart candle + old sheet music + burlap + black velvet ribbon + 3 antique buttons = A REALLY COOL LOOKING CANDLE.
-I decoupaged the old sheet music to the candle
-added a piece of burlap
-added a thin black velvet ribbon over the burlap
-added 3 antique crystal buttons
I also decoupaged another piece of sheet music to a left over tile that I found at a yard sale. I just added my signature "O" and this is how it turned out. I like these two pieces because they are very versatile. I've had them in my living room, spare bedroom and now they are in the office.

BURLAP FOOT STOOL
Love, love, love burlap. I found this foot stool at a yard sale for $1.00. Yes, I said $1.00. It had some hideous fabric on it so I ripped it off and recovered the top with batting.
Hubby reattached the top to the base.
Leave me a comment so I know that you stopped by.

I found my stash of burlap and covered the entire bench. I used hubby's drill to drill the holes and added all the upholstery tacks. I love using power tools. I'm very happy with how it turned out.
I'm undecided if I want to stencil some letters on the top. The stencils that I have are too big so I will have to buy new smaller ones. For now I'm just going to leave it like it is.

BEFORE & AFTER
The before shot of a hurricane lamp that I purchased at a yardsale for $2.00
I changed it up to match the decor in my house and this is what it looks like now.
Not bad, a little black paint and some burlap scraps. Looks pretty good and was so easy.
Isn't it amazing what you can find at yardsales for almost nothing?
