Dogzilla garbage can project

This is an update to my post from a few weeks back.  Hubby made a garbage can to keep Dogzilla  Windsor out of the garbage.  We've been using it for a few weeks now but I just got around to finishing my part.  I stained the oak trim because I like the grain to show through and painted the rest because it was just particle board leftover from another project.  I'm very happy with the final product and best of all it keeps this little guy out of my garbage.

Birthday Party Take II

More pictures of my Granddaughter Mya's 5th Birthday party.  The theme from this year's party was "Fancy Nancy Soiree"  I would like to congratulate my daughter on these party preparations.  She did an amazing job.  The party started off with a photo booth.

...next up were french manicures

....next station was the flip flop station.

All the girls were provided a pair of flip flops and they chose the fabric from the container and created their own designs.  I have to admit this was a huge hit with the girls and their mothers.

Each one of the little princesses were given a party favor.  Their very own tumblers.  The back of the tumblers had each little girls name personalized.

Here is a picture of the table before all the guests arrived.  She recycled frappucino bottles.  She added Eiffel towers in pink and dipped the bottles into pink sprinkles to add the pink to the rims.  Inside was a paper black and white straw.  Once the little guests arrived the bottles were filled with pink birthday punch a.k.a. pink lemonade.

You can see the pink cake pops in the center of the table also.

close up of the frappucino bottles

I have to say again what a great job my daughter did with this party.  Every little girl left the party with not only 1 but 2 gifts to take home, their very own designed flip flops and a personalized tumbler.

You may be thinking what an expense this was.  I can honestly say that my daughter is more frugal than I am.  She has her own vinyl cutter so all the decorations and props were created by her.  I have a few friends from work that donated the frappucino bottles.  Thank Melissa and Jen for consuming all those calories and caffeine to help make Mya's birthday party such a success.

I think she has a future in party planning.

Here's the birthday girl riding her new scooter from Gammy and Papa.

Birthday cake

I always wanted to take a cake decorating class but never set aside the time to do it.  So just for fun I decided that every year since my sweet little granddaughter Mya was born I would make her birthday cake.  Remembering that I am just a novice at this.  It is amazing to me that you can google anything and figure out how to make it.  Well my daughter decided this year that Mya's birthday cake had to have ribbon icing to coordinate with the theme of  a "Fancy Nancy Soiree."

I was a little nervous because I didn't want to show up at the Soiree with the wrong kind of icing on the cake.  Oh geeze, I would have never heard the end of that mistake.  So Sunday morning with my copy of "how to make ribbon icing" in hand I started the process.

Here is the final picture, the cake topper was made by my daughter.

Here's the Birthday girl!

Don't you just love her Eiffel Tower shirt?

Happy 5th Birthday Mya Lee

Check back tomorrow to see all the details of the party.   If you have a little girl you won't want to miss all the clever ideas.

shutter update

I was lucky enough to receive this shutter from Sister number 4 a few month back for free.  I decided to use it in my home office.  I didn't do anything to it except hang it up, the color was already black.  I just hung some leftover pictures on it using binder clips. I have plenty of space left for more picture.

Pretty cute place for pictures at the PRICE OF ZERO!!!!

Dogzilla proof garbage can

I love our new puppy Dogzilla Windsor but he gets in to everything including the garbage.  He's just tall enough and smart enough to figure out how to move the cover of the garbage can and stick his head inside.  URGH!!!!!!!!!!

I told my husband he was going to have to come up with a solution to this issue before I freaked out again.  Believe it or not last Wednesday it was 62 degrees here and he was able to work in the garage (the next morning it dropped to 15 degrees).  I could hear the drill and the nail gun going to town.  After 2 hours I couldn't stand the suspense any longer and I had to peak.
a little leftover plywood and some oak trim later

The lid is on a hinge

What do you think of my work boots?

Now here is the DOGZILLA PROOF garbage can.

Stay tuned for the finished product. I get to paint and stain it.

Project #4 from scraps.
Total cost 4.99.  All the wood was leftover from previous projects.  All we purchased was the hinge.

PUZZLE

I can't take any credit for this post.  This is all my Mother and my Husband's work of art.

I've mentioned my Mother many times in my blog, but if you haven't ever met her she is the most amazing 91 year old woman  you woud ever want to meet.  She has more energy than most 50  year olds including myself.  She still rides her exercise bike each and every day, she just recently gave up her driver's license after a minor traffic accident.  My siblings and I all agreed that it was time for her to depend on us for once.  She put up a little fight but in the end we stayed united and she accepted that her independence was going to take a very small hit.

She lives in a Senior Citizens apartment complex just about 10 miles from me.  Now that she can't just pick up and leave per complex whenever she wants she had to find other things to occupy her time and energy.  We tease her and tell her she is the activities directory in her apartment complex.  Her latest project is working puzzles with all the ladies on her  floor.  They just completed one that is 40 x 16 and is a replica of the last supper.  She informed me last Friday that we needed to head to the craft store because she needed to find "puzzle glue."  Off to the craft store we go,  one bottle of modge podge & a foam brush later and we are on our way home.

This past Friday she informs me that I have to come pick up the puzzle that is all glued together and take it and have it framed.  The good daughter that I am I pick up the puzzle and bring it home and tell my husband "we have to take this and get it framed."  He volunteers his services and says he can do it.  We headed to Lowes and bought a large piece of oak framing that was 120" for only $13.00.

He mounted the puzzle to a piece of panelling that we had leftover from another project and he made a few cuts to the framing and here she is all finished.

Don't mind the white poster board underneath the frame.  Hubby had to work on the kitchen island because it is about 6 degrees in the garage.  We have 6" of snow with more to come tomorrow.  Have I mentioned how much I hate Western Pennsylvania winters?

My mother is going to be so surprised tomorrow when she sees this puzzle all framed.  She will be singing my Husband's praises AGAIN!!!
