New Summer dress for free

My newest addiction is to refashion old clothes in my closet to something new to wear. For this upcycle I took 2 shirts that I've had for about 2 years each, cut them sewed them together and I now have a new summer dress to wear to work or out to dinner.

I removed the band at the bottom of the shirt by using my seam ripper.  I'm planning to make a belt from the piece.

Here's the bottom of the shirt without the band.

I cut the top of the shirt right under the arm hole to use for the bottom of my new dress.

Here is the finished product.  Now I have a new dress that I can wear to the office with a cute pair of shoes.  I love it.

free custom frame

I love free stuff, who doesn't right? My husband picked up this frame for me before it hit the dumpster at his sister's house. I just love that man. I took the frame apart and added a few touches to customize it for our bedroom. I found this wrapping paper at dollar tree a few months back and loved the colors. I'm using alot of yellow in our bedroom now and I loved the natural color because it reminds me of burlap. After he brought the frame home, I had a great plan to update it for our bedroom with one of my favorite pictures of us taken years ago on a trip to Rhode Island. This is a very simple update. I wrapped the bottom part of the frame with the wrapping paper and just cut a piece of burlap a little larger than the actual picture. I cut the white paper that comes inside the frame a little larger than the burlap. I guess you would say I layered it.

night stand update

I was the lucky recipient of this old night stand from sister number 3. It definetly needed some love but was a very solid piece. Here she is before.

I needed a side table in my home office to hold my shredder, extra paper for my printer  and my extra forms and junk that I don't like cluttering up my desk.  I painted the entire table black and used the original hardware.  I added a protective placemat to the top and the inside shelf just so my office supplies and shredder wouldn't scratch the newly painted table. I bought the placemats at the dollar tree and trimmed them to fit.

Here the finished product.  It works perfect in my home office.

Here's a quick update to the Dollar store towels that I updated. First I added the ribbon to the towels just to fancy them up. I used about a yard of ribbon to complete all three towel at .49 cents a yard. I was shopping in the Dollar Tree near my office and I came across these cute flowers. Both flowers were on a card for $1.00. Here you have it my quick update to my cheap towels. Green towels $2.00 each, blue towel I already had, .49 cents worth of ribbon and $1.00 for flowers = Towels that are two cute!!!!!

Refashion with lace

Western PA weather goes from 80 degrees one day to 40 degrees the next. Until Spring and Summer really arrives for good, I have to have a few outfits that can go either way. Another color block refashion, same concept as the others this time I just added a little lace to make it look just a little different. I was able to wear this shirt over a pair of stretch pants.

Again, 100% cotton T-shirts.  These two came from the clearance racks at Walmart for $2.00 each.  I purchased the lace at Joann Fabics for about $1.97 a yard.  I have a cheap shirt for under $5.00.

another refashion

Here we go again, same concept just two different T-shirts. The white one came from the clearance rack at the end of the season for $2.60. The blue one came from the $1.00 bin at my local consignment store. It still had the tags on it and the original cost was $36.00. For $3.60 I have a cute summer dress that I can where to work. This was my first attempt, but it was too short.

Totally love my husband but he doesn't take very flattering pictures.  He doesn't get the angle thing!  Anyway like I said, it was too short so I just added the leftover white from the white T-shirt to the bottom of the blue.  Again I didn't have to hem the dress because I kept the original hem of the T-shirt.

Another cute and comfortable dress that I can wear to work.  I have an obsession with 100% cotton fabrics, anyting other than cotton is just not comfortable to me.  Sometimes it's a little tricky to find 100% cotton summer dresses.  If you know how to sew you can make your own.   Happy refashioning all, I'm warning you it's addicting.

Color block refashions

New additions to my Spring and Summer wardrobes. I’m going a little color-block crazy with my refashions. These are all T-shirts that I already had in my closet, a few cuts, a little sewing and here’s what you get.

The gray on the top and bottom is just one T-shirt that I cut.  Keeping the original hem of the gray one means that I don't have to hem my dress.

Now what to do with the leftover part of the pink t-shirt that I used in the center of the above dress.

check this out, I just added a piece of white from the bottom of a white shirt that I bought new on the clearance rack at Walmart for $2.00.

Here is my new summer shirt.

Totally cute, right?
